ABOUT THE CTH AND ITH
The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) is one of the UK’s leading professional membership and awarding bodies for tourism and hospitality qualifications. Its mission is to develop and add value to careers in the tourism and hospitality industry all around the world. The CTH is endorsed by important industry figures and brands, including Tsogo Sun, Radisson Edwardian and Thistle hotels, the Dhaka Sheraton and many more.
The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (ITH) is the Southern African cousin of the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) in the United Kingdom, established in 1982. The ITH is the CTH’s representative in southern Africa. In this role, the ITH accredits training providers and supports them in rolling out the CTH’s UK-registered qualifications. The ITH also handles student and assessment registration on the behalf of the CTH.

This course is an international programme and registered in the United Kingdom on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. Hospitality and tourism is the world’s single biggest industry, covering everything from international airlines and global hotel chains right down to small family-run restaurants and private tour guiding. The career options are huge and varied. This preliminary foundation course is the first step towards an exciting career in the hospitality industry.
You’ll learn the essentials of human resources & business computing in tourism & hospitality. You will also cover the essentials of marketing & customer relationships in tourism & hospitality. You will be introduced to the tourism & hospitality industry and the essentials of tourism & hospitality operation.
You’ll write one 2.5-hour exam which is set and moderated by CTH in the UK and hand in assignments for the remaining 3 subjects.
You’ll receive the CTH Level 3 Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality from the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH). CTH qualifications are not registered on the South African National Qualifications Framework but are registered in the United Kingdom on the Qualifications and Credit Framework under QCF 600/7003/1.
Once you completed this course you will be able to start your working life at team member level as a guest support representative, hotel receptionist, assistant travel guide, porter, sales trainee, hygiene housekeeper, maintenance assistant, trainee travel agent.
To qualify you must be at least 17 years of age and need to have passed Grade 11. If you have not passed Grade 11, but are over the age of 21, you may still be considered. You must be able to speak, read and write English.
If you want to continue your studies, you may progress to the CTH Intermediate Programme in Hospitality Management and obtain the Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 4. Alternatively, you may gain access to the first year of a relevant university degree at the following universities in the United Kingdom: Edge Hill University, University of West London, University of Surrey and Coventry University College.
CTH LEVEL 4 INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMME IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT – FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE
This course is an international programme and registered in the United Kingdom on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. This is a substantive management programme and combine practical career-based elements with a number of essential underpinning management disciplines that will be invaluable as the individual’s career progresses. The course is therefore an ideal preparation for immediate employment in the sector.
To qualify you need to have completed Grade 12 or an equivalent, or you must have completed the CTH Level 3 Diploma in Tourism & Hospitality, or have been granted an exemption from this. You must be able to speak, read and write English.
You’ll learn about finance in tourism & hospitality, customer service management in tourism & hospitality, global tourism & hospitality, rooms division operations, rooms division supervision, food & beverage operations and food & beverage supervision.
You’ll write one 2.5-hour exam which is set and moderated by CTH in the UK and hand in assignments for the remaining 6 subjects.
You’ll receive the CTH Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management from the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH). CTH qualifications are not registered on the South African National Qualifications Framework but are registered in the United Kingdom on the Qualifications and Credit Framework under QCF 601/7119/4.
Once you completed this course you will be able to secure a position at a relevant employer as a: hotel sales executive, head porter, head waiter, head receptionist, general assistant, food and beverage assistant, bookings manager, events assistant, or housekeeping assistant manager.
